KJU Visits Wo’nsan-Kalma Tourist Zone Construction

KJU’s last observed appearance was his visit to a railway construction project in Kangwo’n Province

DPRK state media reported on May 26 (Saturday) that Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-u’n) toured the construction of the Wo’nsan-Kalma coastal tourist zone.  Also in attendance were Personal Secretariat deputy chief and Workers’ Party of Korea [WPK] Organization Guidance Department Deputy Director Jo Yong Won (Cho Yo’ng-wo’n), Korean People’s Army [KPA] General Political Department Director Gen. Kim Su Gil (Kim Su-kil), KPA General Political Department deputy director for organization Col. Gen. Son Chol Ju (So’n Ch’o’l-chu), Vice Minister of the People’s Armed Forces (with the portfolio for construction and engineering) Lt. Gen. Kim Jong Gwan (Kim Cho’ng-kwan), command staff of the Wo’nsan-Kalma Coastal Tourist Zone construction office and personnel of the State Affairs Commission Design Department.

State media reporting disclosed two notable personnel changes in the KPA’s high command–the appointment of Kim Su Gil as Director of the KPA General Political Department (Bureau) and Son Chol Ju as deputy director in charge of organization (organizational affairs).  NKLW/38 North will have what it hopes is a trenchant dissection of this personnel change during the afternoon (MST) of May 26.

Jong Un was greeted by the KPA personnel upon arrival and looked “at the panoramic view of the construction site along Myo’ngsasipri seaside, where various buildings are taking their shapes.”  He “encouraged the builders, praising them for having done a lot in just several months.”  He said “the period when the Ryomyong legendary stories were created became the old period on this land where fresh leaps in progress are taking place every day” and he “noted that new miracles in construction are being created again at the construction site of the Wo’nsan-Kalma coastal tourist area.”

He toured various parts of the tourist zone’s construction site and “acquainted himself with the overall construction, including its scale and progress and measures for supplying building materials and equipment and discussed the issues arising in hastening the construction.”  Jong Un “highlighted the need to set a day’s feasible schedule of the construction and strictly adhere to the requirements of the standard of design and construction and building methods on the principle of taking responsibility for the safety of the projects and thus guarantee their absolute quality for eternity in all construction projects and thus ensure the quality of the buildings on the highest level.”

Jong Un said that “frontline-style political work and collective emulation should be waged dynamically so that the whole construction site could seethe with the frontline-style propaganda and agitation, ardent patriotism and the zeal for struggle and emulation.”  He underscored “the need for the sector of producing building materials and other relevant units across the country to provide equipment, building materials and finishing building materials need at the construction site in time by vigorously conducting the increased production drive and the drive for creation.”

He said that “it is the determination of the WPK to wonderfully build the Wo’nsan-Kalma coastal tourist area as a Korean-style coast city without an equal in the world to make our people enjoy the highest civilization at the highest level.”  Kim Jong Un also issues instructions to “complete the construction till the Day of the Sun, the birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung (Kim Il-so’ng), next year.”
