A ceremony was held on November 3 (Tuesday) to formally open Mirae Scientists’ Street in Pyongyang, a residential district for faculty and researchers of Kim Ch’aek University of Technology. Attending the ceremony were Pak Pong Ju (DPRK Premier), Choe T’ae Bok (Workers’ Party of Korea [WPK] Secretary for Science and Education and Chairman of the Supreme People’s Assembly), Gen. Pak Yong Sik (Minister of the People’s Armed Forces), O Su Yong (WPK Secretary for Light Industry), Ro Tu Chol (Chairman of the State Planning Commission and DPRK Vice Premier), senior Korean People’s Army [KPA] construction personnel, DPRK Cabinet officials, along with KPA and civilian construction workers and scientists and teachers who will live on Mirae Street.
Pak Pong Ju delivered a speech at the ceremony in which he pronounced Mirae Scientists’ Street “a proud structure in the glorious era of Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-u’n).” According to KCNA, Pak remarked that the “party’s trust and expectation for the educators and scientists are very great at present when the building of a thriving socialist nation is making rapid progress on a new higher stage” and he “called for bearing deep in mind the call of Kim Jong Un for devotedly serving the great people and bringing about uninterrupted great leap and innovations startling the era in the building of a socialist economic power and a highly civilized nation by dint of the single-minded unity around the party.”
After the speaking program, members of the DPRK central leadership, joined by construction personnel and new residents, cut a ceremonial red tape to open the residential district. Pak Pong Ju and other members of the central leadership toured Mirae Scientists’ Street and met some of the new residents.
