On February 14 (Saturday), Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-u’n) promoted 27 Korean People’s Army [KPA] commanders to mark the birth anniversary of late DPRK leader Kim Jong Il (Kim Cho’ng-il). Among those on the list are former XI Corps commanding officer Choe Kyong Song, Vice Minister of State Security and National Defense Commission [NDC] Councilor So Tae Ha, KPA Air and Anti-Air Force Unit #858 commander Ri Il Chang and ballistic missile expert Kim Jong Sik.
The order was issued in Jong Un’s capacity as KPA Supreme Commander (Choson inmin’gun ch’oego) and according to KCNA he “expressed belief that the KPA commanding officers, descendants of President Kim Il Sung (Kim Il-so’ng) and soldiers and disciples of leader Kim Jong Il, will fulfill their honorable responsibilities and duties in the general offensive to hasten the final victory in the revolutionary spirit of Paektu, always bearing mind the trust and expectation of the party and the people.” The promotions were:
