Ryo Chol Ung (Ryo Ch’o’l-u’ng) is commander of the Korean People’s Army [KPA] forward-deployed II Corps.  Ryo joined the Korean People’s Army [KPA] cohort general-grade officers  in April 2006.  In 2013, Col. Gen. Ryo spoke at a war anniversary performance and in 2016 contributed to storm recovery work in North Hamgyo’ng.  He was promoted to Lieutenant  General in May 2020 at the end of a meeting of the Party Central Military Commission and elevated to Colonel General between 2022 and 2023.  In 2022 he was appointed commander of the II Corps.  On 17 October 2024, Col. Gen. Ryo accompanied Kim Jong Un (KJU; Kim Cho’ng-u’n) when KJU inspected the II Corps’ headquarters element.
