Col. Gen. Kang Tong Yun

Colonel General Kang Tong Yun is a deputy (vice) director in of the Workers’ Party of Korea [WPK] Organization and Guidance Department and an SPA deputy (delegate).  Col. Gen. Kang is a paternal cousin of Kim Jong Il’s and member of 3rd generation North Korean elites currently coming to power.

Colonel Gen. Kang was elected a candidate (alternate) member of the Central Committee KWP in March 1988 and a deputy (delegate) from the 9th Supreme People’s Assembly in 1990 to the present.  He was elected to full membership in the CC KWP in December, 1991.   He was promoted to Colonel General (sangjang) in April, 1992.  From 1994 to 1998 he was commanding officer of the 108th Mechanized Corps(Hungnam, South Hamgyong Province), replaced by Kim Jong Il military confidante Gen. Kim Myong Guk.  From 1998 to 2007, he was commanding officer of the 425th Mechanized Corps (Chongju, North Pyongan Province) which is linked to the 108th Mechanized Corps.

Kang Tong Yun was appointed a deputy director of the WPK Organization Guidance Department in 2007.

As of late 2017, his current status is not known, however as a senior OGD official he may not appear in public.
