
According to the schedule of athletic and cultural events commemorating the Day of National Liberation, swimming and diving competitions were held on August 16.
Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and President of the State Affairs of the DPRK, watched the competition.
All participants, gathered together in one place with Comrade Kim Jong Un and able to meaningfully commemorate the Day of National Liberation through athletic and cultural events, were filled with immense emotion and joy.
When Comrade Kim Jong Un appeared at the arena, the entire group of athletes and spectators erupted in thunderous cheers that shook the venue.
Leading officials of the Party, government, and military organs, as well as officials from the Party Central Committee, the Cabinet, ministries, central institutions, and commanding officers of the Ministry of Defense, watched the competition.
The swimming events were divided into:
• Men’s 100m freestyle and 100m breaststroke
• Women’s 100m freestyle and 100m breaststroke
• A mixed medley relay in which four athletes each swam 100m in the order of backstroke, freestyle, breaststroke, and butterfly, with six teams competing.
The competitions were fiercely contested from start to finish amid the athletes’ determination to win and the enthusiastic cheering of the crowd.
In the diving events, three teams participated in the men’s and women’s 10m platform individual events and the mixed 10m synchronized platform event.
In the swimming competition, the Sobeksu Sports Team took first place, the Fisheries Ministry Sports Team took second, and the Suyangsan Sports Team took third.
In the diving competition, the Sobeksu Sports Team also took overall first place.
This was followed by an exhibition of aquatic gymnastics and dance.
The awards ceremony was held amid applause from the participants.
The athletic and cultural events held to mark the 81st anniversary of national liberation added to the festive atmosphere enjoyed by our people.
