Wreath Laying Ceremony at Revolutionary Martyrs’ Cemetery
On August 14, on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the Fatherland, Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and President of the State Affairs of the DPRK, visited the Taesung Mountain Revolutionary Martyrs’ Cemetery.
Members of the WPK Political Bureau Presidium, along with leading officials of the Party, government, and armed forces organs, and responsible cadres of the WPK Central Committee, the Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly, the Cabinet, commissions, ministries, central institutions, and commanding officers of the Korean People’s Army, were in attendance.
An honor guard of the Korean People’s Army was lined up.
The national anthem of the DPRK was played.
As the wreath‑laying music sounded, a wreath in Kim Jong Un’s name was placed at the cemetery’s wreath stand.
Wreaths in the names of the WPK Central Committee, the State Affairs Commission, the Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly, and the Cabinet of the DPRK were also laid.
Together with all participants, Kim Jong Un observed a moment of silence in memory of the revolutionary martyrs who devoted their precious lives to the sacred struggle for the country’s independent sovereignty and its prosperity.
A march‑past by the KPA honor guard followed.
Kim Jong Un said that the steadfast spirit of independence and the immortal exploits of the first generation of revolutionaries—who saved the country and nation and restored dignity through a blood‑stained, arduous anti‑Japanese struggle—constitute an ideological and spiritual treasure and a noble revolutionary heritage that must be carried forward by generations to come.
He stated that the beautiful communist ideals, the unyielding revolutionary faith, and the indomitable fighting spirit of the anti‑Japanese revolutionary fighters continue to give eternal vitality to the struggle of our people as they build the prosperous and powerful nation longed for by the forerunners.
He affirmed that the great cause of the Korean people—who inherit the fighters’ lofty revolutionary spirit and noble outlook on life—will remain ever‑victorious and invincible.
Kim Jong Un then visited the Anti‑Japanese Revolutionary Martyrs’ Memorial.
With a solemn heart toward the well‑known and unknown anti‑Japanese martyrs who loyally upheld the great Leader’s ideas and leadership and contributed to the historic cause of national liberation, he laid flowers at the memorial and observed a moment of silence.
Viewing the three‑person statue depicting the heroic struggle of the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army and the plaques engraved with the names of numerous martyrs, Kim Jong Un said that although their bodies may lie scattered in unnamed mountains and fields, their noble images and traces of heroic feats are clearly recorded in history.
He expressed the wish that the pioneering generation of the Korean revolution—who created the priceless Baekdu revolutionary tradition and bequeathed it to posterity—will live forever in the highest honor and dignity as our style of socialism continues to advance victoriously.
