Delegates and observes to the 9th Party Congress arrived in Pyongyang on 16 February (Monday). Workers Party of Korea (WPK) Secretary for Cadres Affairs Ri Hi Yong (Ri Hi-yo’ng), WPK Secretary for Science and Education Choe Tong Myong (Ch’oe To’ng-myo’ng) and WPK Secretary for Economic Affairs Kim Tok Hun along with other Central
Committee fixtures and functionaries, Pyongyangites and well-wishers welcomed the delegates and observers into town.
According to KCNA:
Amid the great expectations and deep interest of all Party members and the entire people, the moment is drawing near when the 9th Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea—an event of major political significance in the history of our Party and state—will open.
For 80 long years, our Party has remained faithful to socialist ideology and the socialist cause, building a dignified and powerful people’s country through self-respect and self-reliance, and wisely guiding the revolution and construction of a new era aimed at the comprehensive development of the state and the improvement of the people’s well-being. Preparations for the 9th Party Congress, which will mark an important turning point in the leadership history of our Party, have been completed, and the delegates who will stand at the forefront of the sacred new struggle have departed for the venue.
On February 16, the delegates and observers to the 9th Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea arrived in the revolutionary capital of Pyongyang, carrying with them the boundless respect of all Party members, the people, and the service personnel of the People’s Army for our great Party—the organizer and guide of all victories of the Korean people—as well as the precious achievements made in implementing Party policies.
