Chagang Provincial Party Conference Held

DPRK state media reported on April 20 (Wednesday) that the Chagang (Jagang) Workers’ Party of Korea [WPK] Provincial Conference was held in the province’s capital Kanggye.  The conference was attended by members of the Chagang WPK Provincial Committee and delegates (party representatives) drawn from basic party organizations throughout the province and elected at city (municipal) and county party conferences.

The Chagang party conference began with participant paying “silent tribute” to Kim Il Sung (Kim Il-so’ng) and Kim Jong Il (Kim Cho’ng-il).  The party conference then elected the provincial party committee’s executive committee and was briefed about the activities and work of the provincial committee.  A report said that the provincial party committee “has conducted its work, paying primary attention to the work hor holding Kim Il Sung (Kim Il-so’ng) and Kim Jong Il (Kim Cho’ng-il) in high esteem as the eternal leader of the WPK and the Korean people and the sun of Chuch’e and defending and adding brilliance to the leadership exploits of the WPK forever” and the report “raised the tasks for thoroughly establishing the monolithic leadership system of Marshal Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-u’n) and accomplishing the party’s cause for building a thriving nation.”Speakers at the party conference talked about the party’s contribution to the “Kanggye Spirit” mass movement, Kim Jong Un’s role in the introduction of CNC (computer numerical control) technology in Chagang Province’s factories, the province’s accomplishments during the 70-day speed battle, the continued development of hydroelectric power stations in the province and modifications and production at the country’s machine-building and light industrial production units.

The party conference was then briefed about the work of the provincial party auditing commission.  The conference elected members of the Chagang WPK Provincial Committee and the Chagang WPK Provincial Auditing Commission.  Then, the names of delegates and observers representing Chagang at the 7th Party Congress were placed into nomination.  Chagang WPK Provincial Committee Chief Secretary Kim Jae Ryong delivered a speech about electing Kim Jong Un as a party congress delegate, saying that Jong Un’s election “serves as an expression of absolute trust and profound loyalty of all the party members and people in the province.”  This was followed by speeches supporting Jong Un’s election as a party congress delegate and decision to that effect “was adopted” by the party conference “with a unanimous approval.”  Then, delegates and observers representing Chagang Province at the 7th Party Congress were nominated and elected.
