KJU Visits Pyongyang Trolley Bus Factory

KJU’s last observed appearance was his inspection of the Pyongyang Pharmaceutical Factory, along with his wife Ri Sol Ju

DPRK state media reported on February 1 (Thursday) that Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-u’n) visited the Pyongyang Trolley Bus Factory.  Also in attendance were Workers’ Party of Korea [WPK] Vice Chairman for Economic Affairs O Su Yong [O Su-yo’ng], Pyongyang WPK Committee Chairman Kim Su Gil [Kim Su-kil] and Personal Secretariat and WPK Organization Guidance Department Deputy Director Jo Yong Won [Cho Yo’ng-wo’n].

Upon arriving at the factory Jong Un smiled brightly and said that “all [its] buildings are neat and fine and the environment around the factory is clean and it can be seen that great efforts were made to do.”  He toured the rooms which exhibit the factory’s revolutionary and institutional histories and remarked that the “the Pyongyang Trolley Bus Factory was founded thanks to the noble intention of President Kim Il Sung (Kim Il-so’ng) who set forth a policy of operating trolley buses in the capital to make the citizens of the capital live in a cultured way in the pollution-free city.”

Whilst looking at pictures of KIS “watching ‘Ch’o’llima-72’ trolley bus in May 1972” and of Kim Jong Il [Kim Cho’ng-il] “watching a large bus ‘Kwangbok Sonyo’n’ in April 1990,” Jong Un said that it “reminded him of the devotion and efforts of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il to solve the traffic problems of the capital.”  He stresses that “officials and workers of the factory should bear in mind the honor and pride of working the glorious worksite associated the patriotic sweats of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and their love for the people and make constant innovations and continued progress.”

Kim Jong Un toured the processing, electric motor, final assembly and overhaul shops, and other area of the factory and was briefed about “modernization and production.”  Jong Un also looked at new models of trolley buses manufactured at the factory.  He was briefed “about their performance and quality of fittings” and said that they “are a proud creation association with the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance displayed by our workers.”  He was “encouraged and pleasant to see them” and added that KIS and KJI would “have been happy if they had seen citizens of the capital with a broad smile on their faces going to and from worksites aboard new-type trolley buses.” Jong Un stressed the “need to make better designs of trolley buses, make the mark in a unique style and paint them more presentably and make fittings as required by the the people so that may not feel inconvenience and make the trolley bus, a mass transportation means, reflect the appearance of the capital city of Pyongyang.”

Jong Un said that it was “his intention to turn the Pyongyang Trolley Bus Factory into a world-class base for producing trolley buses” and set “the goal of a second phase modernization to be attained by the factory” and took “benevolent measures” to that effect.  Prior to attending a commemorative photo-op with the factory’s employees and managers, Kim Jong Un expressed his “expectation and belief that officials and workers of the factory would fulfill their duty in the work to attain the new goal set by the Party.”
