Gen. Jong Myong Do

General Jong Myong Do [Cho’ng Myo’ng-to] is a former commander of the Korean People’s Army Navy, a position he held from 2007 to 2012.  He was a second generation DPRK security leader and was a member of the Korean Workers’ Party Central Committee and the Party Central Military Commission.

Jong Myong Do was promoted to Lieutenant General in 1997 and elected a deputy to the Supreme People’s Assembly.  He was promoted to Colonel General and assigned command of the West (Yellow) Sea Fleet.  In 2007 Jong Myong Do was assigned as the KPA’s naval chief.

Jong was promoted to General in April 2010, along with other 3rd generation KPA leaders.  General Jong accompanied Kim Jong Il on his inspection of KPA Unit #115 on the occasion of KPA Day (20 April).  He was elected to membership on the CC KWP and Party Central Military Commission on 28 September 2010.

In March 2012 Gen. Jong was dismissed as commander of the KPA Navy. He was reduced in rank and was last observed in a command role with the West Sea Fleet in 2015.
