Ju Sang-song Meets with China Public Security Minister

The DPRK’s Minister of Public Security, Gen. Ju Sang-song (also a member of the National Defense Commission) met with his Chinese counterpart on Thursday.  It is likely that the recent currency denomination in the DPRK was one of the issues discussed, as well as issues affecting Chinese trade.  Gen. Ju’s arrival in Beijing was underscored that the DPRK was closing its border from in late December (which is not uncommon) until February (which is unusual).  Gen. Ju also signed an agreement (actually, several agreements) with his Chinese counterpart which likely involve information sharing, as well as the Chinese providing “aid materials” which is likely surveillance equipment (among other things) among other goodies.  The KCNA report:

Document Signed between DPRK and Chinese Security Ministries
Pyongyang, December 17 (KCNA) — A document on offer of aid materials between the DPRK Ministry of People’s Security and the Chinese Ministry of Public Security was signed in Beijing with due ceremony on Dec. 16.
Present there from the DPRK side were members of the delegation of the Ministry of People’s Security led by Minister Ju Sang Song and the DPRK ambassador to China and from the opposite side Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu and officials concerned.

Ju and Meng inked the document.
